Randoms.

Just a couple of photos to share. I have been known to lament how I, due to work, was missing the sunsets now that they are great. Last week I for no good reason had my camera, and totally drove off-road just to get this:

On the way to one of the parks I photograph, there's this amazing (old!) property that I just want on film, but it's by an intersection with roads that have NO pull-over space. The day I went to photograph the snow, I was feeling bold and there was no one behind me, so I managed this:

So idyllic. Too idyllic, really.

So I have my telephoto lens and went to the zoo today with my best friend who came in town this weekend. I will be posting many photos soon, the photos I should have had last summer but, of course, my Fuji just up and broke.

Exciting!!

Winter storm.

(My roof today)

We have a winter storm gathering strength here that's not supposed to let up till sometime Wednesday afternoon. Lots of ice followed by lots of snow and wind. I've got food, heat, blankets, candles, and a fully-charged laptop, so I'm ready. =)

Album art.

Fun challenge for you!

I created the above "album cover" following a pretty simple step-by-step method. My friends have done it and every last one of their results is amazing and so fun. So here is what you do:

1. Go to Wikipedia and click the link "Random Article." The title of the first article that comes up is the name of your "band."

2. Go to Quotationspage.com and click the link "Random Quotes." The last four or five words of the last quote on the page is the name of your band's "album."

3. Go to Flickr and click on the link near the bottom of the page that says "last 7 days." You'll have to look for the same link again on the new page that opens. The third photo - no matter what it is! - is your album art.

Note: because I am leary of posting photos that belong to someone else without their permission - because I would hate for someone to do that to me! - I chose a photo from my own personal stash for the example above.

4. Use Photoshop, Photobucket, Picnik, whatever image editor you like, to put it all together.

And there you go! Have fun! I'm off to score tickets for Big Quilcene River's upcoming tour... ;-)

Baby, it's cold outside.

So I'm thinking warm thoughts. :)

(It's supposed to snow this weekend. You know what that means...)

Seasons change.

"Loss is nothing else but change, and change is nature's delight." ~ Marcus Aurelius

Some time ago - what feels like so long ago now - I wrote a very short story about a young girl in Renaissance Spain who was dealing with the move she and her father were about to make. She took a walk with the old village friar and voiced her concerns.

“I don’t want to leave.” I slipped my hand into his, which was rough with age; a hand that with its companion had spent much time lifted in offering or clenched in prayer. “I love my home.”

“Yes, our village, our Colina Verde, is worthy of much love.”

Nestled atop a paradise of Spanish hills, Colina Verde was my world. How could the town to which my father and I were returning—his native town, the premio de la reina—possibly know such perfection of light in the crest of dawn, or speak to the exquisite, half-imagined dangers of the dense forest below? Would ivy drape like plaits against cool stone walls; would the women allow me to scatter yellow narcissus petals across the chapel pathway?

“I don’t want to leave,” I whispered, and my ebony hair caught the wind, and spilled over my shoulder.
